Perhaps the most interesting question for me revolved was the first one about starting a business in the same industry as your current employer. In a lecture I attended given by Evan Chrapko, one of the founders of DocSpace, he said that one of the first things that they did when they decided to break loose from their employer was to have their employer sign over their IP rights (which DocSpace paid for). Later when they sold DocSpace, they were approached by their former employers asking for a cut of the sale price, which they easily rebutted because of their earlier transaction. Because they had done the work earlier they were able to avoid a costly lawsuit later.
